For Volunteers and Non-Profit Organizations

Organizations and dedicated volunteers bridge the gap between management agencies and the public they desperately need to reach. Living with Bears puts the power of a world of easily dispensed bear information and motivation into your hands.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead

Making a Difference

Donna-Forest-PIXWebThousands of bears all across America owe their lives to committed and caring people. Time is one of the most precious things you can give. Volunteers are in a unique position to educate, inform and inspire. The hours you donate will make a real difference both to the agency, park, forest or community group you get involved with and the wildlife you care about.

"Volunteers are critical in providing community outreach and education in areas where conflicts with bears are a consistent issue. It is impossible for an agency with limited resources to respond to every issue, participate in every event and present to every group in hopes of encouraging people to live responsibly with bears. Well-trained volunteers help free up our wildlife officers' time to focus on human safety concerns or other pressing matters."
- Mary K. McCormac, Education and Watchable Wildlife Coordinator, Colorado Parks and Wildlife

Get Bear Smart Society

It would be tough to find a better example of the power of a few committed people to change the world than Whistler’s Get Bear Smart Society. Sylvia Dolson, a tiny staff and a surprisingly small band of very committed volunteers have made a world of difference not only in their home town of Whistler, British Columbia, but in the world. Thanks to lots of hard work and strong partnerships with the community, service providers and wildlife management agencies today Whistler is one of a handful of Canada’s certified Bear Smart communities.
